The Salish Sea is a marine sanctuary in the adjoining coastal areas of British Columbia and Washington. It is one of the world's largest and biologically diverse inland waterways. For thousands of years this area has been inhabited by the Coast Salish People.
The Coast Salish connection to the land and water of the Pacific Northwest is at the center of their unique cultural beliefs and practices. This distinct eco system provides the Coast Salish people with sources of nourishment and knowledge. The land and sea provide gifts of food, shelter, clothing, and medicine.
