What is the Bill Reid Gallery? 

The Bill Reid Gallery is Canada's only public gallery dedicated to the contemporary Indigenous Northwest Coast Art. Established in 2008, it showcases the masterworks of Bill Reid and other Indigenous artists. The gallery's objective is to promote a deeper understanding of Indigenous cultures and values and to create a welcoming space for all to connect, learn, and grow.

Bill Reid (1920-1998) was a prominent Canadian artist, carver, and jeweler of Haida heritage. He is best known for his exceptional artistry, which includes sculptures, jewelry, and prints that reflect Northwest Coast Indigenous culture and traditions.

What can I expect to see at the Bill Reid Gallery? 

The gallery displays a diverse collection of Bill Reid's art, including his iconic sculptures, jewelry, prints, and more. In addition to his masterworks, the gallery showcases a series of dynamic exhibitions and learning programs that highlight the remarkable work of contemporary Indigenous artists of the Northwest Coast. 

How many exhibitions does the Bill Reid Gallery host per year? 

The gallery hosts four exhibitions per year. One exhibition runs for the entire year, while the other three exhibitions change thrice a year and are exhibited on the mezzanine. 

Are there exhibitions other than Bill Reid’s work? 

Yes, in addition to Bill Reid's works, the gallery often hosts temporary exhibitions featuring contemporary Indigenous artists from the Northwest Coast and their contributions to art and culture. 

What are the opening hours of the Bill Reid Gallery? 

Summer Hours (May to September)

Monday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm. However, please note that the opening hours may vary on holidays. 

Winter Hours (October to May)

Wednesday to Sunday, from 11 am to 5 pm.

Is there an admission fee? 

Yes, there is typically an admission fee to visit the gallery. Check the Hours & Admissions page for current pricing and any discounts that may be available. 

Are there requirements for self-guided group visits?

Self-guided group visits allow visitors consisting of 10+ to navigate the gallery's permanent collection and current rotating main floor and mezzanine exhibitions on their own.  

All self-guided groups of 10 or more receive discounted admission and must be booked in advance online: https://www.billreidgallery.ca/pages/hours-admissions  

Are there requirements for large groups?

Please contact our Visitor Services team for assistance before your visit if you are a large group (20+) planning on attending during regular admission hours or a free event (i.e., Community sponsored days, openings etc.), to inform us about the date, time, and size of your group visits.  

Accommodating large groups of 20+ require at least 3 days advance notice and that they meet specific guidelines.

Are there locker spaces available for visitors?

We have limited lockers, and storage for your belongings. If you are bringing a large group, please be mindful of these challenges to accommodate your group. 

Can I take pictures inside the gallery? 

Yes, it is possible to take pictures. However, flash photography and/or usage of a tripod or selfie stick is not permitted.
