6:00 - 7:00 pm
Join us at the Gallery for a film screening of clips from several of George Clutesi’s films, including Prophecy (1979), The Legend of Walks Far Woman (1980), and Dreamspeaker (1976), followed by a discussion by curator Aliya Boubard and Akira Iahtail.
Throughout the 70s and early 80s, Clutesi had a number of small roles in various independent films and TV shows. While some were meaningful roles, others that he played were often the stereotypical view of Indigenous people at that time. Since then, the landscape of Indigenous representation in film has changed drastically.
The discussion will focus on George Clutesi’s career as an actor, as well as the broader landscape of Indigenous cinema.
