Bill Reid: Master of Haida Art

Embark on a journey into the mystery of Haida art as experienced by the renowned artist Bill Reid, and be transported by his art, stories and film.

Looking at Bill Reid's art on the Canadian $20 banknote, most Canadians can smile at the recognition of man whose name became synonymous with The Raven, the trickster and creator. Bill Reid: Master of Haida Art is the gallery's inaugural exhibition. Highlights of the exhibition include Bill Reid's monumental masterpiece, Mythic Messengers, a 28 foot bronze frieze, that until now has been relatively unknown. As well, there is a new monumental pole featuring Wasago, or Haida Sea-Wolf, carved by James Hart celebrating Reid, Hart's mentor. Restoring Enchantment, a new gallery dedicated solely to the gold and silver masterworks of Bill Reid is where audience's will see the latest masterwork to be donated to the Bill Reid Foundation Collection: a massive gold men's cuff bracelet deeply carved by Reid with a Beaver and an Eagle.
