Artist Bios

Chrystal Sparrow is a Musqueam Coast Salish artist and carver whose practice spans traditional and contemporary forms. Coming from a long line of weavers, carvers, and fishermen, she learned Coast Salish design and carving from her late father, master carver Irving Sparrow. Her work is known for its feminine expression, movement, and elegance, and includes cedar panels, house posts, sculpture, beadwork, painting, and portraiture. Her public art can be found throughout Vancouver, including at BC Children’s Hospital and the Vancouver School Board.
Jessica Silvey is a self-taught Coast Salish weaver and fibre artist from Egmont, BC. She has been weaving for over 25 years and teaching weaving to community members for over 15 years. Her favourite place to be is the forest, where she holds many memories, from spending time with her paternal grandmother to harvesting materials for her projects. She learned traditional techniques from her father, as well as through research, trial, and error. Weaving is both her passion and her therapy.
