Join us at the Gallery for a linocut printmaking workshop with Sto:lo/Nuu-chah-nulth artist Kwiis Hamilton. Participants will get the opportunity to learn the basics of linocut printing with Kwiis’ guidance and create their own prints from their own designs or choose from a preprepared design from the artist. Kwiis will also share about his practice as an artist.

🔴 About 🔴
Kwiis Hamilton is a Ku’us/Xwelmexw visual artist and maker from the Hupačasath and Leq’a:mel tribes, born in Ahahswinis near Port Alberni, and based in the shared territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, səlilwətaɬ, and Stó:lō peoples (Vancouver, BC).
Through the Potlatch system, he has been adopted into the Cranmer/Newman families of the ‘Na̱mg̱is in Yalis (Alert Bay), grounding his practice in kinship, reciprocity, and cultural continuity.
Kwiis maintains these relationships through song, dance, ceremony, and the creation of regalia, masks, rattles, jewelry, drums, prints, and paintings. Raised by his mother, Kwitsel Tatel, to be an artist and land defender, he uses his work to share traditional and contemporary stories that foster critical thinking and vibrant, resilient communities.
