Learn about Coast Salish design in this in-person workshop with artist Maynard Johnny Jr. and create your own small painting on canvas. Suitable for ages 12 and up. No previous experience required. Supplies will be provided.
Maynard Johnny Jr. is of Coast Salish descent on his father’s side from Penelakut Island and Kwakwaka’wakw descent on his mother’s side from We Wai Kai, Cape Mudge on Quadra Island. Since 1993 Maynard has dedicated himself to the Coast Salish style. Primarily self-taught, Maynard has studied ancient Coast Salish spindle whorls, rattles and comb designs. Maynard's work has been displayed in numerous gallery shows and major museum exhibitions in Vancouver, Victoria, and Seattle
