Co-curators Beth Carter and Aliya Boubard give an introduction and a brief tour of our new exhibition.
“Joy is a well-made object, equaled only by the joy of making it.”—Bill Reid, 1988
What is a well-made object? Bill Reid considered more than the quality—he also looked at the shape, the process, the techniques, the history, and the innovation inherent in each work. The Bill Reid Gallery has a small but significant permanent collection which celebrates some of the finest contemporary artists working on the Northwest Coast. In recent years, the Gallery has focused on acquiring works by women artists as well as archival materials related to Bill Reid.
This group exhibition presents works by Morgan Asoyuf, Judy Chartrand, Joe David, Robert Davidson, Beau Dick, Tom Eneas, Dorothy Grant, Phil Gray, David Neel, Meghann O’Brien, Bill Reid, Cecilia Savey, Marika Swan, Art Thompson, The Rematriate Collective, Lyle Wilson, and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas.
