Tule mats were central to syilx life: lightweight, portable structures that supported travel along waterways for trade, harvesting, visiting, and ceremony. Through this workshop, participants are invited to engage with these teachings in a meaningful, contemporary way.

Raised in Nk’mip, within the Osoyoos Indian Band of the syilx Okanagan Nation, Taylor Baptiste’s work is rooted in family, community, and ancestral knowledge. Her interdisciplinary practice, spanning sculpture, photography, film, performance, and land-based work, reflects an ongoing relationship with the land (tmxʷulaxʷ) and all living things (tmixʷ). As both an artist and Cultural Coordinator at the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre, Taylor brings a deeply informed and community-connected approach to sharing syilx knowledge and creative practice.

Limited to 15 participants.
