Haida Dogfish 'Qqaaxhada' - Copper Series, Framed Art CardBill Reid (Haida)
The Dogfish is a small shark and a major crest figure in Haida art. Easy to identify, the Dogfish always has a high formed head, a downturned mouth with sharply pointed teeth, and gill slits on each side of the mouth. Other characteristic features include gill slits on the forehead and cheeks, eyes with elliptical pupils, sharp spines and asymmetrical tail flukes. Reis'd use of the round ovoids in the place of joints marks adds power to this fiercely dynamic creature.
