Decaf/Regular, Limited Edition PrintAlison Marks (Tlingit)
"Culture is not stagnant. Through contact and the technological revolution, Tlingit culture is constantly adapting, observing and searching for its place in the world. My work rejects the exotification of Tlingit culture. The pieces subtly subvert dominant narratives surrounding women in art, technology and modern Indigenous identity. My practice is rooted in exploring the present day Tlingit experience. Shifting traditions, vanishing practices and emerging beliefs converge, each concept ultimately dictating the medium." - Artist Statement, Alison Marks.
